Gabon is becoming an increasingly accessible and promising destination for business ventures due to its developing economic environment and a government that is gradually fostering entrepreneurship. Current data and streamlined processes show that initial costs and legal procedures are manageable, opening the door to significant opportunities for investors in the country.

Starting a business in Gabon begins with registration at the National Agency for the Promotion of Investments (ANPI). This process, which used to be cumbersome, has been notably streamlined in recent years, allowing completion in about 15 days. Registration costs vary depending on the company’s capital, typically ranging from 500,000 to 1,000,000 CFA francs (approximately 850 to 1,700 USD). Additionally, obtaining a tax identification number is integrated into the registration process.

The initial capital required to set up a business in Gabon depends on the type and scale of the enterprise. However, the government provides fiscal and financial incentives for strategic sectors such as technology, agriculture, and energy. These incentives help entrepreneurs reduce costs and focus their resources on sustainable growth.

According to the World Bank’s Doing Business 2020 ranking, Gabon is positioned 169th globally, with improvements in areas like access to credit and business registration processes. Despite ongoing challenges in areas like construction permits and cross-border trade, Gabon is moving toward a more competitive and investor-friendly business environment.

The Gabonese market benefits from a young and rapidly growing population. With approximately 2.3 million people, over 60% are under the age of 25, creating a vibrant and expanding consumer market. Moreover, with more than 80% of the population living in urban areas such as Libreville and Port-Gentil, businesses have direct access to a concentrated and highly urbanized market, reducing logistical costs and facilitating the introduction of new products and services.
