1. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has disclosed that the Federal Government has agreed to pay an additional N15 billion as revitalisation fund of public universities.
The minister disclosed this on Friday in Abuja as the government makes efforts to reach the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
2. The Osun and Oyo State Government have canceled the joint ownership of Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) and Ladoke Akintola College of Health.
The institution’s teaching hospital, situated in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, will be solely the responsibility of the Osun State Government following a memorandum of agreement by the executive governors of Oyo and Osun States Seyi Makinde, and Gboyega Oyetola respectively.
3. Former Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma Egba, is bereaved.
His wife Amaka died in a fatal accident along Benin-Akure road on Friday on her way to a function in Akure, Ondo State.
4. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 143 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.
The NCDC in a tweet via its Twitter handle on Friday night, said a total of 9 States, including the FCT recorded the 143 infections in the last 24 hours.
5. An Upper Area Court at Kubwa in Abuja has ordered the arrest of Atiku Abubakar’s son.
The Judge, Bashir Danmaisule issued the order following his failure to comply with a judgment ordering him to hand over their three sons to his divorced wife, Maryam Sherif.
6. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nsukka Zone, has kicked against the alleged attempt by the management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), to use the military to conduct examinations in the institution.
Dr Igbana Ajir, the Zonal Coordinator Nsukka zone, made the condemnation at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, while briefing newsmen shortly after ASUU zonal meeting on Friday.
7. A fatal fire outbreak in an illegal crude oil refining camp popularly known as Kpo-fire in Bayelsa State has claimed the lives of three teenagers, leaving one severely injured.
The incident occurred between Ibelebiri and Otuegue 2 communities in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
8. The Nigerian Police have announced that nine of its officers who were kidnapped along Katsina–Zamfara road have been rescued.
Police Spokesman, Frank Mba in a statement on Friday evening, said the officers were “successfully rescued.”
9. No fewer than 266 pharmaceutical shops and patent medicine stores have been sealed in Ekiti State by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), for allegedly contravening the regulation guiding the sale of drugs.
Also, six pharmacies that breached the PCN’s code would be prosecuted to protect the ethical practice of the profession and safeguard the health of Nigerians.
10. Some governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and chieftains of the party have visited former President, Goodluck Jonathan, as pressure continues to mount on him to contest the 2023 election.
Those who visited the former president at his Abuja residence to felicitate with him on his 63rd birthday anniversary, included: Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu and Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru.
